An extract from a script-opening scene

EXT. A DARK ALLEY-NIGHT

We can see A YOUNG WOMAN dressed in a long silver raincoat that comes down to her knees and long black leather boots that go up to her thighs. Facing down, shadow’s obscure her face, but the dim light from an above street lamp illuminates her bright blue hair. She is stood with her back to the wall one leg leant against it. She reaches into her pocket. CLOSE UP of a gloved hand slowly opening a silver cigarette case and reaching for a long, thin, jet black cigarette. CLOSE UP of the cigarette being placed between a pair of deep red lips. CLOSE UP of the bright orange flame as it lights the tip of the cigarette. The YOUNG WOMAN inhales deeply before flicking her head back. We see the YOUNG WOMAN in full as she exhales a thin stream of smoke into the air. Before smiling to her self. FADE OUT

FADE IN. INT. A LARGE DARKENED ROOM-NIGHT

We can see AN OLD MAN in his late sixties, sittings on a worn black leather chair. He is looks like an ageing rocker from the future. His face pale and wrinkled he is wearing black leather trousers, red snake skin boots and a black shirt. His head is shaved and a line of silver studs goes down the middle of it. He smiles to himself. CUT TO CLOSE UP of his hand covered in tattoos, fingernails grotesquely long and seemingly made of steel. FADE OUT.

FADE IN. EXT STREET- NIGHT

We see a pair of black boots walking down busy street. The camera pans up to reveal THE YOUNG WOMAN walking slowly with a silver briefcase in hand. We now see her surroundings. A busy, dirty urban landscape. Skyscrapers that disappear into the night. CUT TO CLOSE UP’s of CCTV cameras that watch the peoples every move. Flashing neon lights offer promises of nudity. Giant screens and billboards advertise dreams. The people on the street dress in strange and wonderful fashions(think steam-punk meets Alexander mqueen). Businessmen in bowler hats and fur coats, with black umbrellas and platform shoes. A Hustler in a top hat and brass goggles walks with his lady, her in a long black dress, black eye mask and a hat as tall as her partners. Hookers in latex catsuits and outrageous heels. Cyber punks with purple hair and long black trench coats stand in groups smoking and laughing at the homeless men and women fighting for scraps. THE YOUNG WOMAN walks through as if in a world of her own. Taking long slow strides the crowds of people seem to unconsciously part as she passes through them. CUT TO

INT. THE OLD MANS HOUSE –NIGHT

THE OLD MAN is leant back in his chair. This time a BODYGAURD stands next to him. The BODYGAURD is of medium build and looks like a model. He is wearing a sharp looking black suit with the blazer off, and a holster with two rather large looking guns on either side. On the other side of THE OLD MAN stands A WOMAN. THE WOMAN is tall, it is hard to tell her age as her face is covered by a white veil attached to what look like antler’s. The rest of her is covered up by a white dress, her arms not visible. She looks down at THE OLD MAN slowly. THE OLD MAN looks up at THE BODYGAURD and smiles. The BODYGAURD smiles back and reaches up to stroke his gun. CUT TO CLOSE UP of the gun, so big it almost looks cartoonish. CUT BACK TO THE OLD MAN who is staring intently straight ahead CUT TO CLOSE UP OF OLD MANS FACE subtitles:

“ARE YOU READY”

CUT BACK TO

EXT STREET-NIGHT

THE YOUNG WOMAN stands in a large doorway looking straight ahead. CUT TO CLOSE UP THE YOUNG WOMANS as she lights a cigarette and looks straight into the camera subtitles

“IM READY”

CUT TO TITLE SEQUENCE.

A screenshot from Lady Gaga's "Papparazzi" video.

I love the costumes in Lady Gaga's videos, the are sexy, surreal, and glamorous. This costume for example, based on Minnie mouse, is amazing. Laday Gaga's art direction has been a HUGE influence on my script in terms of costume etc....

An picture of Lady Gaga....
One of the influences for my film script......

Another image from the "post apocalyptic landscape" series...........

another on by me.............
This is part of series of image I took in Leicester entitled " The post apocalyptic landscape" in which I imagined what Landscape Photography would be like once we wiped ourselves out with nuclear war and global warming.
This was taken at a demolition site.........

Another one of mine.....
I took a series of photograhs off CCTV cameras in Leicester on estates where there are too many. The idea for the series was "watching them, watching us".
I edited this quite alot on Photoshop. Adjusting the colour saturation, and using the blur tool to slightly distort the cameras, and make them look as though they are melting......

Another image taken by me during my AS photography days......
Whilst out walking I encountered this structure, it may have been an antenna or something, but it looked from where I was standing like a crucifix. I took the photograph from a low angle to give it a sense of power. I then edited in photoshop to produce the effect seen here.

One of my own images. I took this while I was doing AS photography and found it on my laptop. and decided to put it up here. I took it under a bridge in park near my house. the model was my girlfriend. What I was trying to convey with this image was a feeling of loneliness and abandonment. That is specifically why I chose to shoot under a bridge, because it made me think of a child running away from home and where they might hide.

Another image by Mark Ryden entitled Little boy blue

A very sinister image.....

An image by Artist Mark Ryden entitled The ecstacy of Caroline"

Mark Ryden has been identified with the "low brow" artistic movement which has been identified as being postmodern.

This is an interesting image. There is so much going on! The bunny in the jack in-a-box brings and the little girl on the piano, immediately envoke feelings of childhood. But on closer inspection, like most of Rydens work, there is something more going on. The all seeing eye in the middle of the girls notebook, seems to peer out at the viewer. In the bottom right corner a sheepish looking baby lwans on a slab of meat. And Abaraham Licoln face adorns the jack-in-the-box........

Another modified image by Banksy......

This is a parody of the Famous Andy Warhol paintings "32 Cambells soup cans" . Again Banksy manages to turn a famous painting on its head and add a humorous British twist.

A modifed painting by Banksy....

This is a modified version of Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks". In my opinion Banksy is a perfect example of a post modern artist. A street artist obsessed with messing with the world of fine art.

The original painting dealt with the loneliness of living in a big city. One of the notable things about the painting is the fact that there is no visible door leading outside, empahsizing the claustrophobic nature of the situation. In Banksy's version, this claustrophobic quiet is disturbed by what looks like a British football hooligan. This is funny given the British repuation abroad.

Some more from Steven Klein.......

Again another grusome image of death presented in a sexy and glamorous way. The woman puffs on a ciggarette, another symbol of death, whilst her partner lies bloodied and injured beside her.

Some more from Steven Klein

A picture of burlesque star Dita Von Teese. I like this image, it has a "Neo-Noir" feel to it. The low key lighting, and the dark blood red of the floors give the image a "seedy motel" kind of quality.

The costume Dita is wearing make her look like a "Femme fatale". The image seems to tell the story of a couple mabye on the run from the law. The man in the background seems to be looking at a helicopter light shining through the window.

Stven Klein X-Urbia

I like this image alot. The costumes amazing, i'ts the same sort of art direction that can be found in music videos by Lady Gaga. I like the way the image is framed. The eye is drawn away from the two women to the right side of the image. The two shopping carts fit in nicely with the surburban theme.

Steven Klein X-Urbia

Another image that portrays death in a glamorous and almost sexy way.

Some more from Steven Klein X-Urbia
Again turning the idea of the suburban housewife on it's head. Steven Klein manages to create something both that is both glamorous and macarbe. The woman in the bathtub appears to be dead. Her eyes are closed and her skin is pale. But her dress and bright blue hair give the image a glossy "magazine" look. The inclusion of the rubber washing up gloves is both humorous and fits in with the surbubia theme.

Some more from Steven Klein.....

Part of his editorial for W magazine X-urbia is a colorful and surreal take on surburban America. Kind of like "Desperate Housewives" meets "Aeon Flux"

The bright colours give the image a hyper real almost comic book quality.

An image taken by photographer Steven Klein, in a style that has been dubbed as "transgresive fashion" photography. What I like about Stephen Kleins photography is the way it that it transports the viewer into a world that is as familiar as it is strange and disturbing.

This image of a botched lip job is one I found very interesting. There is alot going on within the single frame, therefore the viewers eye is never focused on a single subject. The dark red puffed up lips of the woman in the foreground, along with her black dress is in stark contrast to the cold blue tint of the rest of the image. The outfit the nurse is wearing matches the surrounding's more. In the top right corner of the image is a small mirror, that if you look closely seems to show the flash of the camera, which in a sense takes away from the illusion of the image.

Another image from Larry Clarks teenage lust. In this image the subjects are seen injecting what I think is crystal meth. This unflinching portrayal of unchecked hedonism, is something I would like to explore within my own work.

The black and white photography adds to grim and quite depressing nature of the image.

An image taken by photography and filmmaker Larry Clark. One of my favourite Filmmakers Larry Clark has never shied away from controversy. His 1995 fim Kids dealt with issues such as underage sex, drugs and aids. But before that he released Tulsa and Teenage lust photography books examaning the hedonistic sometimes depressing lives of young people living in Tulsa and other parts of the U.S.

This particular image is from teenage lust. What I find intersting about the image is the voyeuristic nature of it. There is almost no doubt that what we are witnessing is a real sex act. It doesn't seem staged whatsoever.

Another image taken by Willima Eggleston. What I love about Eggleston is that with his photography he seems to capture an America that most people dont get to see. He manges to create striking images out of everyday subjects. His photgraphy reminds me a little of the cinema of Jim Jarmusch a filmaker who as turned minimalism into an art form.

This image in particular is very interesting. The frail looking old lady cluthches a ciggarette and almost seems to blend into her rather grim surroundings.

Another well composed image by William Eggleston. Again the rule of thirds is applied here with the image clearly divided into three parts.

Another image by William Eggleston. Here we have anude man sitting alone on a couch. I like the way the image is composed. The rule of thirds is applied, with the image being divided into three parts. The first part is the section with the curtain and the lamp shade. The nect is the blue wall and the gun rack. Finally we have the man and the couch.

I love the way the old lamp dimly shines on what looks like a filthy pair of curtains. This washed out gritty asthetic is something I would like to achieve within my own work.

An image taken by American photographer William Eggleston. William Eggleston's photography has been cited as one of the main influences on "Trash Humpers". Eggleston manages to find striking images within the everyday. The walls have a "red light" feel to them, giving the picture a seedy atmosphere. The doorway cleverly frames what looks like an image of Christ, illuminated up in an bright glowing light.
A low angle shot gives the Christ image a sort of
power, therefore emphasizing what could have
been quit a mundane image. This image made me think back to the lecture on semiotics. The image of Christ immediately has all sorts of connotations attached to it. Throw that in with the red light, a symbol of sex and decadence in many parts of the world and we have an intersting and visually striking image.

Another sreenshot from Trash Humpers. Here I think the films protaganist are partying with an interacial group of hookers.

A screenshot from the film "Trash humpers" by Harmonie Korine. Shot entirely on old VHS Trash Humpers looks and feels as if it was assembled from "found" footage, which was the directors intention. This screenshot has a haunting quality. The naked doll next to the wrinkly old man, is quite a troubling image. Harmonie Korine is well known for his bizzare and often disturbing imagery and this shot is no exception.
